Pakistan ranks 148th out of a total of 148 counties in the World Economic Forum’s 2025 Gender Gap Report.
To usher positive change in this regard, Unlearning partners with the Civil Services Academy in Lahore, Pakistan to mitigate the needle on gender equality in Pakistan.
Unlearning is a mission-led social enterprise, developed by Dr. Maryam Tanwir at the University of Cambridge. Unlearning’s empirically evidenced intervention merges three critical thinking frameworks that address core gender biases and misconceptions. By disentangling cognitive heuristics, one goes to the roots of the problem of gender inequality .
To mitigate the gender bias, we have developed a multi-dimensional intervention along three integrated frameworks: (i) the empirically based Integrative Complexity Method, (ii) Behavioral Interventions, and (iii) the Theatre of the Oppressed. The Program is designed around multi-sensory, meta-cognitive strategies and delivered through a ‘Socratic’ method that employs an interactive pedagogy to stimulate critical thinking, challenge assumptions and encourage awareness of ‘how’ we think, rather than ‘what’ we think.
Unlearning not only works on relinquishing gender heuristics and biases, but is unique in providing empirical evidence post training on the specific thematic areas the biases were relinquished and gender equality mindsets evolved!
